
Aims
1. To promote the pleasures and values associated with intellectual curiosity, creativity and learning
2. To develop the highest possible standard of competence in written and spoken English
3. To create, maintain and strengthen knowledge and understanding of the Anglophone culture, past and present
4. To ensure compatibility of the education provided with potential integration of the students into Anglophone educational systems
5. To facilitate the students’ social and moral development, and mutual understanding and tolerance, within a multicultural framework
6. To generate, manage and employ financial revenues sufficient to ensure the optimal development of educational resources, within the limit laid down in the statutes and the confines of the French educational system, while as far as possible maintaining fees within the reach of potential candidate families
7. Positively to facilitate the integration of Section students into the French educational and cultural system
Objectives
1. To apply a policy of recruitment, remuneration, motivation and training of teaching staff, which will ensure the provision of a stimulating and enjoyable learning experience
2a. To devise and put into application an instructional curriculum based on currently accepted good educational practice in English-speaking schools and the requirements of the French Ministère de l’Education Nationale at levels appropriate to the students’ age and ability
2b. To enable English mother-tongue students who have been admitted to the Section to have access through the teaching provided by the Section to a level of instruction in English appropriate to their age and ability
2c. Where appropriate, to enable students whose mother tongue is not English, to have access to reinforced instruction in order to achieve a comparable level of attainment to that of English mother-tongue students in the subjects taught by the Section
2d. To strengthen students’ capacity to use spoken English
2e. To establish a framework for assessing, monitoring, recording and reporting on students’ attainment
3a. To encourage the appreciation of History, literature in English and other selected subjects through a coordinated programme from CP to Terminale
3b. To organise and encourage extra-curricular activities for Section students
4a. To undertake appropriate liaison with Anglophone schools and universities in order to facilitate possible entry by Section students
4b. To provide necessary information, advice and assistance to Section lycée students relating to courses of Higher Education
5a. To ensure the necessary levels of comprehension of and collaboration with the French educational system
5b. When possible, to organise intensive courses of French language instruction for incoming students before the start of the academic year
5c. To facilitate the election of delegates to the Anglophone Section Student Council and to organise regular meetings of this body
5d. To encourage and support the activities of the Section alumni organisation
6a. To work towards the creation of a well-stocked Section library (including video materials and computer software) and to organise a system to encourage students to make full use of these facilities
6b. Actively to research the latest appropriate teaching materials keeping abreast of methods and levels of instruction in English-speaking educational environments
