OIB

Première and Terminale

All Section students entering 1e embark on a 2-year programme leading to the OPTION INTERNATIONALE DU BACCALAUREATE.

Students can be in any of the French Sections (L, ES, S). Their programme of studies is identical to that of any other Lycée student, with the exception of English and History (the two subjects specific to the International Option).

BACCALAUREAT

Anglophone Section students have the opportunity to sit the examinations of the OIB (Option Internationale du Baccalaureat).

All  Section pupils entering 1e automatically begin the 2-year course.

THE COURSE

In English, 6 works of literature are studied during the 2 years of study. Three of these works will be examined in the written exam, together with a question of literary appreciation, and the other 3 including 1 Shakespeare play, in an oral exam.

In History, the course covers : International Relations 1945 – 1991, colonisation and independence in the mid 19 th century, France during the Vth Republic and Great Britain 1945 – 1991.

In Geography : globalisation, development, aspects of the European Union.

In Première, Section teaching hours move to 7 per week and in Terminale there are 8 teaching periods.

THE EXAM

All exams are sat in Fontainebleau : the specific exams of the Option are a 4-hour written paper in English and a 4-hour written paper in History/Geography ( in English). The oral exams ( 30 minute oral in English, 15 minute oral in H/Geo) also take place in Fontainebleau.

COEFFICIENTS

There is a substantial difference between the weighting given to OIB subjects and the regular History and English (LV1) of the standard French baccalaureat. This compensation for the work of the pupils should be looked at with great interest.

RECOGNITION

The aim of this exam was to reward the work of the pupils in this type of bilingual academic system. It should be pointed out that in American and British universities, this is increasingly looked on as one of the most stimulating and demanding end of school examinations and pupils who study for it are considered very interesting candidates for top university places.
