At the end of Primary School students move into the Collège (Middle School).
The first year is known as 6e (6 th Grade/ Year 7). At this level, the Anglophone Section usually admits around 40 students, many of whom will be moving up from the Primary School. There are frequently many applicants from other schools in France and abroad.
In 6e, the Anglophone Section pupils are distributed among 3 of the 8 or 9 6e Collège classes. All students quickly learn to navigate their way around the campus and to adapt to a different timetable and the introduction of new subjects. Homework requirements become more challenging and time-consuming.
One of the French teaching team will be their ‘professeur principal’ (main teacher) of the class and will follow the work and progress of each student. Parents are able to contact this teacher to discuss any issues pertaining to their child.
Section pupils who are confident in both French and English may, if they so wish, begin the study of another foreign language, making their choice between German, Russian or Portuguese.
A second foreign language is chosen 2 years later, when students enter 4e (8 th Grade/Year 9) : German, Russian or Spanish.
For students who are not French speakers or who have specific difficulties with the language will follow a programme of French as a Foreign Language.
